A National Make Music Day Celebration and Ice Cream Social will be held on Wednesday, June 21st from 5:30-8 p.m., at the Mauldin Cultural Center with a host of activities for families and children of all ages. They will join people from over 850 cities in 110 countries, celebrating the joy of making music. The highlight of the day will be a Ukelele Circle held at the Cultural Center Amphitheater. The Circle is open to people of all ages; no experience is necessary and Musical Innovations will provide ukuleles for those who do not own their own to use. For the first 30 people that join the Circle, Alfred Publishing will provide free ukulele method books. The event is co-sponsored by the Mauldin Chamber of Commerce, Mauldin City, the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) and Musical Innovations.

The easy-to-learn ukulele gives people young and old a way to experience the joy of music particiation, regardless of their prior musical experience. Also planned for the evening are ice cream, hot dog and other food trucks; and performances by members of the Yesterukes, a ukulele band made up of “well-seasoned adults” who entertain audiences by singing and playing great music from Tin Pan Alley and the Great American Songbook through Rock n’ Roll, from the 50’s, to some groovin’ songs of the 60’s (see yesterukes.blogspot.com). There will be door prizes and other giveaways for all who attend.

National Music Day is a day to appreciate the many benefits that music making brings to life. It spotlights the significance of music in our respective cultures, and salutes the many ways that music —both making it and enjoying it – can bring people together. Music has the power to heal, connect, and inspire. A national day for music reminds us that while there is music in the world, we can set down our troubles, pick up our instruments and make a joyful noise. In Europe, under the names Fête de la Musique or World Music Day, this tradition has been going on since as far back as 1982.

Musical Innovations was founded in 2009 to bring better quality musical products and services to the Greenville area and beyond. The company services schools in South and North Carolina, and also houses two specialty shops: Carolina Flutes and SC Strings. In 2015, the company was named the National Association of Music Merchant’s Top 100 Dealer of the Year. For more information about Musical Innovations, please visit www.musicalinnovations.biz.
