Fried Green Tomatoes with Tomato Chutney

Ingredients

  • Wet batter
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ¼ cup self-rise flour
  • ½ tsp table salt
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • Dry batter
  • 1 cup self-rise flour
  • Pinch salt
  • Pinch black pepper
  • Tomato Chutney
  • 4 cups fresh crushed red tomatoes
  • 2 Green bell peppers, chopped
  • 2 cups chopped onions
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce

Preparation

Slice 4 large green tomatoes ¼" thick. Sprinkle with salt to help remove moisture. Let tomatoes rest for 30 minutes. Dip each slice into the wet batter then dredge into dry batter. Fry at 375 degrees until golden brown. Drain cooked tomatoes on paper towel. Serve with Tomato chutney.

Cook on medium until thickens to a "salsa" consistency. Refrigerate. Serve with fried green tomatoes
